How it all started
While looking for a carer for our first child, we were introduced to different ways of raising children and play approaches promoting child independence and self-led learning. Childcare services or schools that use this method tend to be very expensive because the resources are usually imported, very few teachers know how to use this approach and it is difficult to sustain.
So we decided to dive further into this whole play-based learning and built our own open-ended play and furniture products. Whilst doing so, we would also like to promote local carpentry skills, which is very underrated today even with sustainability being a huge topic in today's world. Hence, alongside @modle.play, we also have an education arm, @kitabinamy to teach woodworking and DIY. Plainly because there are a lot of leadership learnings (at all ages) we can reap through woodworking - you'll need to join our classes to explore further!
What does Modle stand for
MODULARITY + LEARNING.
We would like to believe in 1 size fits all. This means designing a product that is multifunctional and lasts over time, or at least functional for a few years before it is outgrown. This also means designing products which sparks learning through imagination and there is more than 1 way to play at different stages; e.g. a block can be used for developmental play like stacking and sorting but also can be anything the child wants it to be for pretend play.
SUSTAINABILITY.
Our playgrounds are made from wood which is renewable and is carbon neutral (when
harvested sustainably). On top of that, 90% of our materials are made
from premium-grade high-density plywood instead of sawn wood. That means our playground designs use less harvested tree logs than if we used sawn timber to achieve the required durability and strength.
